SAN JOSE, Antique – Farmers may now have their livestock bred at the Provincial Livestock Breeding and Production Center in Barangay Tubudan, San Remigio.
The center caters to those who want to improve their animals’ genetic strain for better production, among others, said Porferio Gallego Jr., a supervising agriculturist at the Provincial Veterinary Office (ProVet).
It currently houses 18 Bulgarian Murrah buffalo/carabao, 15 American Brahman cattle and 27 Anglo Nubian Cross goats.
Gallego said farmers need at least 2,500 square meters for pasture and forage to sustain the animals dispersed to them.
While established in 2013 yet, the animal-breeding center had to be prepared prior to full-swing operations.
Preparations included forage and pasture development and perimeter fence installation at the 20-hectare property.
A multipurpose structure that would serve as staff house, among other functions, was also built.
Construction of some housing units for the farm animals is ongoing.
The ProVet struck a deal with the University of Antique for the use of the latter’s property for the animal-breeding center. (PNA)
