ILOILO City – The City Health Office is ready to administer anti-pneumonia vaccines to senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
City Health Office (CHO) head Dr. Bernard Caspe said 2,000 shots of anti-pneumonia vaccines were downloaded by the Department of Health (DOH) to the city.
They were just “starting doses” because it’s only the start of the year, he said.
DOH will probably download more once the supply is depleted, said Caspe.
CHO advised doctors assigned in the city’s district health centers to get their allocation of 150 shots.
“Anytime they can start with the immunization once they have their supply already,” Caspe said.
CHO will prioritize the senior citizens and if there are stocks left then it will accommodate PWDs.
Caspe was confident that they can cover all the elderly and PWDs as the free vaccination has been going on for five years. The anti-pneumonia shot is good for five years.
While the vaccine is not an assurance that people who get it will not get sick of pneumonia, it has around 85 to 90 percent protection rate, Caspe said. (PNA)
