ILOILO City – The 19-year-old woman found dead in a well in San Remigio, Antique was murdered, a postmortem examination showed.
Angel Mae Llera had hematoma on the chest and right ribs, while her ribs and the bridge of her nose were broken, said Dr. Owen Lebaquin, medicolegal officer of the Police Regional Office 6, who went to Antique to autopsy the body.
These indicate that Llera, a resident of Barangay Vilvar, San Remigio, was tortured before she was dumped into the well, Lebaquin said.
Clad in a striped shirt and a pair of jeans, the body was already in an advanced state of decomposition when found in Barangay Magdalena on Jan. 30, police said.
Lebaquin said the hematoma the victim suffered were consistent with force from a man’s fist or a hard object.
But the medico-legal officer said the cause of death was “asphyxia by submersion.” He believed the victim was unconscious when thrown into the well.
Lebaquin was unable to determine if the victim was sexually assaulted due to the body’s level of decomposition.
A farmer found Llera’s body around 6 a.m. Police refused to identify the farmer.
He was about to fetch water for his crops when he smelled something foul. He then found the woman’s body floating in the well.
Her family had been looking for her since she left their house around 5 p.m. on Jan. 22.
Meanwhile the San Remigio police were trying to reach out to the Llera family.
“We are gathering pieces of evidence. We hope the family could give us information that will help us with the case,” Senior Police Officer 2 Rosenie Mena told Panay News in a phone interview./PN
