ANTIQUE — The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Antique has authorized Gov. Paolo Javier to enter into an agreement with Food Terminal Inc. (FTI) for the implementation of the P20 Rice Project under the “Benteng Bigas Meron (BBM) Na” program.
Fernando Corvera Sr., chairperson of the Provincial Board Committee on Agriculture, said the program aims to provide rice at P20 per kilo to indigents, senior citizens and other marginalized sectors in the province.
“The FTI will distribute rice for only P20 per kilo that will benefit the indigents, senior citizens, and other marginalized sectors,” Corvera said in an interview on Monday.
Corvera said the provincial government has requested FTI to establish three distribution outlets in Antique to make the low-cost rice more accessible to residents.
He said the proposed outlets will be located in San Jose de Buenavista, Patnongon and Culasi.
The San Jose de Buenavista outlet will serve beneficiaries from the southern municipalities, while the Patnongon outlet will cater to residents from the central part of the province. The Culasi outlet, meanwhile, will be designated for beneficiaries from northern Antique.
Corvera said the Provincial Board fully supports the P20 Rice Project, describing it as a national government initiative aimed at easing the burden of marginalized families by providing affordable rice. (PNA)
