SAN JOSE, Antique – Fifteen junior college students from Antique passed the 2016 Junior Level Science Scholarship of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
Without freshmen enrollees for the upcoming school year due to the K-12 program, the DOST offered its scholarship to junior college students who were into science and technology courses, said Engr. Eleazar Moscoso, a specialist at the agency’s provincial office.
Ten of the scholars were enrolled in the University of Antique.
Darlene S. del Rosario, Yanah Vince B. Escander, Alven P. Magbanua, April Erza R. Masmela, Lyjoe E. Orcajada, Judie Mae S. Viesa, and Allyssa Marie C. Villeza were taking up education, major in biological science.
Alberto A. Fugen was taking up electronics engineering; Trent S. Rafanan, mechanical engineering; and Christian M. Magbanua, electrical engineering.
Lera Gay V. Bacay and Ma. Aurora Joy E. Marques were taking up biology at the West Visayas State University; June P. de Juan, agriculture, Aklan State University; Jaj H. Sentina, electrical engineering, Central Philippine University; and Febe M. Pajarito, food technology, University of the Philippines.
The DOST will refund their tuition and other school expenses during the first semester, said Moscoso. The scholars were also entitled to monthly living allowance, book allowance, one economy round-trip transportation allowance, group insurance, and post-graduation clothing allowance.
The Junior Level Science Scholarship is provided for under Republic 10612, or the Act expanding the coverage of the Science and Technology (S&T) Scholarship Program and strengthening the teaching of science and mathematics in secondary schools.
Under Republic Act 7687, or the Act instituting an S&T Scholarship Program, scholarships shall be awarded to poor but talented and deserving students. (PIA/PN)
