Legend of the Seas of the international cruise line Royal Caribbean is one of the earliest to include Boracay Island as its port of call in the Philippines.

BORACAY – This island resort will soon become a homeport for an international cruise line.
Royal Caribbean confirmed its plan to make Boracay its main cruise ship hub in the Philippines by developing a terminal at the reclamation area of the Caticlan jetty port, said port administrator Niven Maquirang.
A memorandum of understanding between the Aklan provincial government and Royal Caribbean Cruises, Inc. is under way, he said.
The development, eyed to be completed within three to four years, will be funded through a public-private partnership, he added.
Maquirang said the project will include a berthing and terminal facility and cater to the “cruise and fly” concept.
In “cruise and fly,” tourists will fly to Boracay, stay there for one or two days, and then transfer to the next destination via cruise.
The cruise ship hub will help generate jobs and boost the income of local producers, said Maquirang.
“The proposed cruise port will also be used as transit point to other Western Visayan areas, like Sicogon (Island) in Iloilo,” he said.
Royal Caribbean was one of the biggest contributors to the local cruise tourism.
Legend of the Seas, one of its cruise lines, was one of the earliest to include the island as its port of call in the Philippines.
Aside from being a beach destination, Boracay is also considered a major cruise destination in the country and is part of the Turquoise Triangle, along with Manila and Palawan. (PNA)
