SAN JOSE, Antique – The Provincial Health Office targets to cover 85 percent of the province’s population for the mass drug administration against lymphatic filariasis this year.
“We are moving forward to a filariasis-free province that is why we have to sustain the previous year’s accomplishment of 80 percent coverage,” said Provincial Health Officer Ric Noel Naciongayo.
Filariasis is a disease transmitted from host to host by mosquitoes.
The parasites enter the body and the larva develops into an adult worm. It stays in the lymphatic system leading to fluid build-up and swelling.
The disease can cause severe swelling in arms, legs and genitals. (PIA/PN)
