SAN JOSE, Antique – The Provincial Committee on Anti-Trafficking, Violence Against Women and Children, Child Labor Illegal Recruitment and Anti-Child Pornography discussed the unified protocol in handling cases of human trafficking, illegal recruitment and child labor.
Provincial Director Lorraine Villegas of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said all member agencies of the said committee should know the unified matrix of protocol for appropriate action during rescue operations, as well as actively involve during advocacy activities for its prevention.
In Antique, there were two recorded cases of trafficking last year, Villegas revealed.
There is thus a need to have proactive measures in raising public awareness on how to detect and report cases of trafficking, illegal recruitment, child labor and pornography, she stressed.
The committee likewise verbalized the need to have training and simulation exercise.
The unified protocol was initiated on May 2015 in the municipality of Dumangas, Iloilo by 10 agencies including DOLE, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Justice, Department of Interior and Local Government, the police, coastguard, and National Bureau of Investigation, among others.
Also known as the “Dumangas Protocol”, it hopes to intensify the campaign against child labor, illegal recruitment and trafficking. (PIA-Antique/PN)
