SAN JOSE, Antique – Before super typhoon “Rolly” passed by the northern tip of Antique province yesterday, the previous typhoon “Quinta” affected a total of 4,725 Antiqueños, data from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) showed.
When “Quinta” struck, modular classes were suspended in some municipalities and Gov. Rhodora Cadiao announced the suspension of work in provincial government offices.
Forty-eight barangays in 11 municipalities, namely San Jose, Barbaza, Hamtic, Culasi, Patnongon, Libertad, Sibalom, Laua-an, Tibiao, San Remigio and Tobias Fornier, were affected by “Quinta”.
Twenty-seven evacuation centers were activated. But PSWDO also recorded 612 displaced individuals who opted to stay with relatives or friends.
Fifty-one houses were recorded to have been partially damaged by “Quinta” and five houses totally damaged.
Jason Alagos, social welfare officer of the PSWDO, said their office provided assistance to those affected.
“Ang Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office under kay Sir Larry Petinglay may naka-standby ri-an nga goods nga 189. In case may mag-request nga LGU kang atun augmentation, ang amun opisina ready gid,” Alagos said.
Governor Cadiao made use of the standby family food packs on Oct. 26 in her monitoring of the province.
She personally brought 30 family food packs and 10 cans of biscuits to “Quinta”-affected families in the northern part of the province. Seventeen packs were distributed to Barangay Camancijan, Culasi where families evacuated following the collapse of the old Bacong River Dike caused by heavy rainfall.
Alagos adds that their office has a P1-million budget available for the procurement of goods to be used for upcoming typhoons.
There are also financial aids such as the Aid to Individuals in Crisis Situations program to farmers or other individuals affected. (Mary Catherine Ynez Lavega, PIO-Antique/PN)
