ILOILO City – Following a series of confrontations that led to the demise of key leaders within the New People’s Army (NPA) in Panay Island, the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division (3ID) said it has received surrender overtures from the remaining insurgents.
Brigadier General Michael Samson, commander of the 301st Infantry Brigade, confirmed the receipt of these surrender feelers, interpreting them as a sign of the weakening resolve among the NPA ranks.
“It is preferable for them to surrender rather than continue the conflict. We are prepared to welcome them and integrate them into government rehabilitation programs. They have limited options now, especially after the loss of their leaders,” said Samson.
Concurrently, Major General Marion Sison, commander of the 3ID, emphasized the continuation of military operations against those who choose to persist in their resistance.
“Our resolve remains firm in dismantling the NPA’s Komiteng Rehiyon-Panay and the Central Front, which represent the residual insurgent forces in the region. Our forces are engaged in continuous combat operations to neutralize these elements and ensure the security of all residents of Panay,” Sison said.
He further highlighted the strategic goal of achieving a state of Stable Internal Peace and Security (SIPS) for Panay Island by the end of September this year.
