ILOILO City — The Jordan, Guimaras police took in custody a 35-year-old resident of Barangay Sinapsapan in the town.
The 35-year-old Joenel Pugaja was charged with violation of Republic Act (RA) 9262, or the Anti-Violence against Women and their Children Act of 2004, a police report showed.
Elements of the Jordan municipal police station arrested him in their village on the strength of a court-issued warrant at around 1:10 p.m. on March 20.
RA 9262 criminalizes various forms of violence against women and their children — physical, sexual and psychological, including economic abuse.
Penalties for perpetrators include imprisonment of various terms, fines of up to P300,000, and mandatory psychological counseling or psychiatric treatment./PN
