ILOILO – The Garins have a lot to lose if they “disturb the political landscape” of the province, said Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr.

He was reacting to reports that Vice Gov. Christine “Tingting” Garin, a member of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), would be the vice gubernatorial running mate of gubernational aspirant Cong. Ferjenel Biron of the Nacionalista Party.

Defensor expressed confidence that Garin would seek reelection in tandem with his son Cong. Arthur “Toto” Defensor Jr. running for governor.

“Bal-an man na sang mga Garin nga indi nila pag-istorbohon ang political landscape ukon kamada sang politika sa Iloilo. They have everything to gain and nothing to lose,” said the governor.

The Defensors are members of PDP-Laban, too.

“Sure winner na si Tingting as vice governor sa setup sang PDP-Laban nga si Toto ang governor,” said the elder Defensor.

Biron recently disclosed his choice of running mate would surprise everyone and that majority of the mayors in Iloilo would support their tandem.

“He is already counting the chicks before the eggs are even hatched,” said Defensor.

The governor said Biron is actually panicking and believed the congressman does not have a running mate yet.

“Congressman Biron is panicking. He knows the real sentiments of the mayors, their personal and private sentiments,” said Defensor.

The governor also shrugged off reports that Sen. Cynthia Villar will support Biron in the 2019 election.

“We have nothing to fear. Sin-o madala niya nga maboto kay Congressman Biron diri haw,” said Defensor.

The elder Defensor defeated Biron in the gubernatorial race during the 2013 election./PN
