AS MILLING SEASON NEARS, Will P3k per bag of sugar price remain?

BACOLOD City – Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson of Negros Occidental is hopeful that sugar will remain at P3,000 per bag as milling season begins.

“Every time there’s sugar importation, they say it is based on a study. We will know if the studies made were accurate when the milling season starts,” Lacson said.

Meanwhile, 5th District’s Cong. Emilio Yulo is concerned that sugar prices will go down.

Yulo said the prices this season may not reach last year’s P2,400 to P4,000 per sack.

He attributed the possible low price of sugar to the huge stock held by the Sugar Regulatory Administration that has not yet been released to the market.

It will be a challenge, especially for small planters, said Yulo.

The milling season will begin in the first week of September. (Watchmen Daily Journal)
