ILOILO City – The assistant principal of Cabatuan National Comprehensive High School was killed. His head was smashed with big stones.

The 59-year-old Dante Roldan was found dead in a secluded, grassy area of a sugarcane plantation in Barangay Naslo, Maasin, Iloilo past 5 a.m. yesterday.

He was lying face down on the ground, said 55-year-old Juan Gene of Barangay Caigon, Maasin who found the body.

Roldan was wearing a white polo shirt, a pair of black plants and black shoes. He had wounds on the head. Three big stones with bloodstains were found nearby.

He had no more wallet, cellphone or bag, according to the police.

Roldan was last seen alive past 10 p.m. on March 21 in the town proper of Cabatuan by four witnesses who offered information to the police of Maasin after learning that the assistant principal was found dead.

The witnesses said Roldan and two men left Cabatuan onboard a motorcycle.

Roldan was a resident of Serrano Street, Cabatuan.

According to Inspector Menrico Candaliza of Maasin, around 8 p.m. Roldan was at JN Pantatan Kandingan, an eatery in Barangay Poblacion, Cabataun but later transferred to the plaza.

The four witnesses who were also at the eatery noticed two men tailing Roldan, said Candaliza.

Candaliza declined to name the four witnesses. Doing so could jeopardize an ongoing police operation to bag the suspects, he explained.

Roldan, still single, had been serving Cabatuan National Comprehensive High School for over 30 years, according to Principal Valentine Lauro.

“He was a good and intelligent man. He used to be the department head for Social Studies and was also in charge of the junior high school,” said Lauro.

He said he did not know of anyone who may have grudges on Roldan./PN
