Ateneo clobbers FEU, seals Final 4 seat in UAAP volleyball

MANILA – Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles continued its dominant run in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball. It posted a 25-20, 25-10, 25-18 sweep of Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws at the San Juan Arena.

Pauline Gaston and Kat Tolentino finished with 11 points each while Madeleine Madayag and Bea de Leon added seven markers each.

With the win, the Lady Eagles secured a Final Four seat with its 9-1 win-loss slate.

From a back-and-forth action in the first set, the Lady Eagles suddenly saw its 21-17 lead trimmed to 20-21 before making a decisive run, capped by an error from FEU’s Ivana Agudo, to take the set.

Lady Eagles’ momentum continued in the second set. They jumped to a 14-2 advantage before making a run in the third frame, where they erased a four-point Lady Tamaraws’ lead, to erect a 23-18 edge.

Key stat in the match was the Lady Tamaraws giving up 27 errors as compared to the Lady Eagles’ 18 miscues.

“I’m happy ‘yung mga players ko they responded to the challenge. We know naman FEU will give a challenge,” said Lady Eagles head coach Oliver Almadro. “We expect FEU will give us a great fight. We have to level up our intensity and energy.”

Jerrili Malabanan top-scored with eight points, while Heather Guino-o and Jeanette Villareal had seven and six points, respectively, for the Lady Tamaraws, which dropped to 6-4./PN
