MANILA – F2 Logistics Cargo Movers ended the elimination round of the 2019 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix on a winning note. It swept Cignal HD Spikers, 25-19, 25-20, 26-24 at the San Juan Arena.

Maria Jose Perez, Lindsay Stalzer and Victorinara Galang tallied 13 points each to lead the way for the Cargo Movers on Thursday night.

The Movers ended the double-round eliminations at second place with 11-3 win-loss record and will face Foton Tornadoes in the quarterfinals.

After their easy wins in the first two sets, the Cargo Movers encountered trouble late in the third frame as HD Spikers’ import Ana Artemeva scored a service ace to put her team at set point, 24-23.

The Cargo Movers, however, did not allow the match to be dragged to a fourth set. Perez nailed back-to-back spikes for a 25-24 lead before Galang delivered the game-winning ace.

“Mahirap kasi ‘yung manggagaling ka sa talo going to quarterfinals,” Cargo Movers coach Ramil De Jesus said. “Sabi ko sa kanila mas maganda kung kumuha tayo ng kumpiyansa para lahat ng ginagawa namin sa training mailabas natin sa game.”

Artemeva top-scored with 19 points while Erica Wilson and Rachel Anne Daquis added 13 and 12 markers, respectively, for the HD Spikers, which finished at fourth place with 7-7 slate and will battle United Volleyball Club in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, the Tornadoes cruised to its second straight win at the end of the elimination round following a 25-20, 20-25, 25-22, 25-11 domination over the Generika-Ayala Lifesavers.

Courtney Felinski was hailed as the player of the match with 23 points, on 16 attacks, six service aces and a block for the Tornadoes (3-11). The Lifesavers dropped to 4-10 card./PN
