JINS from Ateneo de Iloilo stamped class by taking home 17 medals in the 2017 ILOPRISAA taekwondo on Saturday at Robinsons Place mall in Jaro, Iloilo City.
Ateneo won six gold, four silver and seven bronze medals in the elementary and secondary events.
Elementary gold medalists were Elizabeth Marie Borres (girls’ individual poomsae), Gabriel Alfonso Samson (boys’ individual poomsae) and Elisha Venice Aguilar (kyorugi).
Borres, Niesha Kariz Pequierda and Sophia Grace Go (girls’ team poomsae), and Ameila Carla Victoria and Conrad Joseph Pido (kyorugi) took home silvers.
Bronze medals went to Go in girls’ individual poomsae and Pequierda and Antonio Miguel Nafarrete in mixed pair poomsae.
In the secondary division, the gold winners were Mikee Joan Cortez, Katrina Antonia Garaygay and Elaine Margaret Borres in girls’ team poomsae, Xyrus Andrei Desierto in boys’ individual poomsae, and Borres and Desierto in mixed pair poomsae.
Cortez won silver in girls’ individual poomsae, while bronze medalists were Borres in individual poomsae, and Shaena Maryel Lazara, Ma. Wilmena Popelo, Mary Wen Rivera, and Joan Ja Samson in kyorugi.
“I am proud of their performance,” their mentor, Mark V. Pinggol, said. “They managed to beat tough and experienced opponents from the elimination round all the way to the finals.”/PN
