MANILA – Ateneo Blue Eagles refuses to entertain the possibility of sweeping their way to the finals with three games remaining in their UAAP Season 80 men’s basketball schedule.
Blue Eagles head coach Tab Baldwin said that rather than thinking on the outright finals seat, they want to focus on their remaining matches in the eliminations “one game at a time.”
“I don’t care if we’re one win away from a sweep or 500 wins away from a sweep,” said Baldwin. “The only game that matters is (University of Santo Tomas Tigers). We don’t look past that.”
The Blue Eagles are currently on top of the standings with 11-0 win-loss slate and has secured a “twice-to-beat” incentive if ever the semifinals round will go down with a Final Four format.
A sweep of the 14 elimination round game will automatically advance the Blue Eagles to the best-of-three championship series where it will wait the survivor of the step-ladder semifinals.
Still remaining on Blue Eagles schedule are Tigers on November 4, University of the Philippines Maroons on Nov. 8 and rival De La Salle University Green Archers on Nov. 12.
“Every game is a step forward for our team,” Baldwin said. “We wanted to focus on playing the game at hand. Every game is different and the result of that game will depend on how their practices go.”
“It’s important that we believe that… What’s most important for us is the quality of performance. We think that if we perform well, the results will take care of themselves,” he added./PN
