MANILA – Ceres-Negros Football Club banked on its hot first half to score a 5-1 win over Davao Aguilas Football Club in the 2017 Philippines Football League at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.
Fernando Rodriguez finished with a hat-trick on Thursday night while Bienvenido Marañon and Patrick Reichelt added a conversion each to lead the way for the Negros Occidental-based football squad.
The Ceres-Negros have moved up to second place in the standings with 48 points on 15 wins, three draws and four losses, while Davao Aguilas was still at seventh with 15 points.
Meanwhile, Global-Cebu Football Club banked on late hits by Wesley Dos Santos and Rufino Sanchez to score a come-from-behind 4-3 win over Stallion-Laguna and complete the semifinals casts.
Ceres-Negros didn’t waste time. It opened the scoring in the first minute with Rodriguez converting from a cross by Iain Ramsay.
The lead was doubled minutes later with Stephan Schrock threading a ball in front to Reichelt, who scored from long range.
The Davao Aguilas trimmed the deficit to 1-2 in the 27th when Angel Guirado tapped in a free ball. Marañon, however, responded with his own shot from a pass by Marko Trkulja to increase the lead to 3-1.
Ceres-Negros added two more goals just before the halftime break with Rodriguez scoring his second in the 33rd minute before completing his hat-trick six minutes later with a hit from a pass by Marañon.
