KALIBO, Aklan – The preparations for the 2018 Ati-Atihan festival is 70 percent ready, according to festival organizer Kalibo Santo Niño Ati-Atihan Foundation, Inc. (Kasafi).
Albert Menez, chairman of Kasafi, said volunteers and stakeholders are working round-the-clock two months before the annual celebration.
“They (volunteers) have been working hard to ensure that the forthcoming Kalibo festival for Señor Santo Niño is the best and the biggest ever,” Menez added.
The Sadsad Ati-Atihan street dancing contest, the transfer of the Santo Niño de Kalibo image and the Pilgrims Mass, religious dance and dawn penitential processions, a futsal cup, a trade fair, Paeapak, Hala Bira Ati-Atihan Nights, Philippine Airlines Mabuhay Night, and Kaean-an sa Plaza are among the set events of the festival.
Others are the Mutya it Kalibo Ati-Atihan pageant, Kalibo Ati-Atihan Street Bazaar, Aklan Higante Contest, Sinaot sa Calle, SangKalibong Tamboe and Float Parade, Aklan Visual Arts Exhibit, Traffic Jam car show, and Bikers’ Rally.
There will also be a music festival, the Kalibo Spectrum Invasion 2018.
Moreover, the Kalibo Ati-Atihan Festival King pageant will have its debut in next year’s celebration.
Menez said hotels and pension inns in this capital town, Numancia, New Washington, and Banga are expected to be fully booked during the festival from Jan. 12 to 21 next year. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
