MANILA – Aldin Ayo ended his two-year partnership with De La Salle University Green Archers and was set to move to University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers as head coach.
Ayo informed Green Archers of his decision to leave the school on Wednesday, exactly a week after the UAAP Season 80 runner-up announced it had re-secured the services of its 40-year-old mentor.
Joining Ayo in Growling Tigers were assistant coaches Glenn Capacio, Mcjour Luid and Miggy Solitaria, who will also handle the UST Juniors basketball team.
Various reports indicated that Ayo was trying to lure some of his players in Green Archers to Growling Tigers, which finished last place with a 1-13 win-loss record in UAAP Season 80.
Talks of Ayo’s move to UST already surfaced before the end of the latest UAAP season but the coach refused to comment on the matter when asked after Green Archers’ loss to Ateneo Blue Eagles in the finals.
With Ayo’s departure, Louie Gonzales was appointed Green Archers’ interim head coach as the school prepares for the Fil-Oil Flying V Tournament next month.
Meanwhile, Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings assistant coach Richard del Rosario was being groomed to mentor Green Archers, with Tim Cone serving as one of his consultants.
Del Rosario was not new to coaching in the collegiate ranks. He has previously handled De La Salle-College of St. Benilde Blazers in the NCAA men’s basketball./PN
