MANILA – Philippine Azkals will send a team to the Chinese Taipei Football Association (CTFA) International Tournament from Dec. 1 to 5 in Taipei.
Head Coach Thomas Dooley said he will try to tap a team comprising a mixture of veterans and young players for the contest that includes Taiwan, Laos and East Timor.
But Dooley said Azkals players from Philippines Football League (PFL) semifinalists Ceres Negros, Meralco Manila, Kaya Makati, and Global Cebu will not join the squad.
“We will be forming the best team possible with the players available for the tournament,” he said. “I am looking at tapping a mixture of veteran players and those young ones.”
As of press time, among those confirmed to see action in the pocket tournament were Mike Ott, Simone Rota, Angel Guirado, and Jarvey Gayoso.
Those who may be tapped were Phil and James Younghusband, Dylan de Bruycker, Jesus Melliza, Nick O’Donnell, Sean Kane, and Fitch Arboleda, whose PFL squads have already been eliminated.
Azkals will open its campaign against Laos at 4 p.m. on Dec. 1 and will face Taiwan next at 7 p.m. on Dec. 3 and East Timor, 4 p.m. on Dec. 5./PN
