MANILA – The Philippine men’s football team vented its ire on Guam with a 4-1 drubbing in the 2022 World Cup/2023 Asian Cup qualification yesterday at the Guam National Football Stadium.

Angel Guirado, Patrick Reichelt, Stephan Schrock, and Patrick Strauss came up with a conversion each as the Azkals bounced back from its 5-2 defeat in the hands of Syria last week.

The Azkals opened the scoring at the sixth minute mark. Guirado headed a cross by Schrock.

It was quickly doubled six minutes later. Reichelt latched on to a pass from midfield and rounded the Guam keeper for the tap in.

The home team nearly pulled one back at the 25th minute but was foiled by Azkals’ keeper Michael Falkesgaard.

The Azkals also had an opportunity to increase the lead to three at the half but Mark Hartmann’s shot just hit the crossbar.

More opportunities came in the way for the Azkals in the second half but Javier Patino and Schrock was unable to take advantage.

Guam was finally successful in netting its first goal at 67th with Marcus Lopez connecting a spot on penalty.
The Azkals was quick to restore its two-point edge after a solo run and a low shot past the defense by Schrock at the 71st.

Strauss added up to the Philippines’ advantage with an 81st minute hit.
This was Guam’s second straight defeat in the qualifying tournament after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Nepal a week ago./PN
