BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) ratified Resolution No. 02, series of 2020 of the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CDRRMC) approving the funding support of P10 million for the city’s inter-agency task force against the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV).
But it put a collatilla – the CDRRMC must submit to the city council the list of equipment to be purchased and the program of works.
The P10 million will be utilized by the task force for the prevention and control of the 2019 nCoV through the City Health Office (CHO), said Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, chairperson of the Task Force Against nCoV.
The CDRRMC resolution noted that the 2019-nCoV acute respiratory disease poses a threat to all Filipinos in all regions, including this city.
CHO Environment and Sanitation Division head Grace Tan, spokesperson of the city inter-agency task force against the 2019-nCoV, said seven persons under investigation (PUIs) for the virus were being quarantined in several hospitals in this city and one was discharged following the negative result of this person’s confirmatory test done by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine in Metro Manila.
Coronaviruses are common, and typically cause mild respiratory conditions, such as a cough or runny nose.
But some are more serious – such as the deadly Sars (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (Mers).
This 2019-nCoV is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans.
It seems to start with a fever, followed by a dry cough and then, after a week, leads to shortness of breath.
But in more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death.
A report on the early stages of the outbreak by the Lancet medical journal said most patients who died from the virus had pre-existing conditions./PN
