BACOLOD City – Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia said the report stating that “Bacolod City and Negros Occidental appear to have more drug problems than Iloilo” must be treated positively.
The report, which was based on a statement of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), indicated that Bacolod City has the most number of drug personalities who surrendered to and were arrested by the police.
Leonardia this means that the city police are doing a good job.
“The drug problem is here even before President Rodrigo Duterte came to Malacañang,” Leaonardia said.
He added, “So the assumption is everybody is having that problem…Bacolod has so many apprehensions, [which means] it is more efficient and more effective in terms of its antidrug campaign than the others.”
Between Dec. 5, 2017 and Feb. 5, 2018, a total of 66 drug personalities surrendered to the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) and 62 to the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, according to Superintendent Gilbert Guerero, PRO-6 spokesman.
During the period, a total of 126 drug suspects were arrested in sting operations in Bacolod City and 93 in other areas in Negros Occidental, Gorero added.
Leonardia said the figures imply a positive development in the antidrug campaign in the city and the rest of the province./PN
