BACOLOD City – Public school teachers may serve in the upcoming barangay and SangguniangKabataan (SK) elections, according to the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT)-Negros.
ACT-Negros chairman GualbertoDajao met with the Bacolod City election officer Atty. MavilMajarucon-Sia on Tuesday.
According to Dajao, they were able to raise their concerns to Sia and they were given assurance that their demands will be forwarded to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Atty. Rowena Guanzon.
Guanzon is scheduled to visit the city tomorrow.
Dajao said Sia also assured them of their security while serving in the barangay and SK polls.
He added that they were also updated that the election-related cases filed against three teachers of the Rizal Elementary School in the city in 2013 were all dropped.
Comelec also issued a resolution providing financial assistance and other aid to teachers who may face election-related cases.
But Dajao said that even some of their demands were granted, teachers in the city and the rest of the province still have the final say whether or not to serve in the elections.
Negros Occidental Provincial Election Officer Atty, Jessie Suarez earlier said there is possible shortage of public school teachers who will render election service this May.
