BACOLOD City – The city government here, through the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD), is conducting an ongoing validation of households whose homes were destroyed or damaged by Typhoon “Tino.”
According to DSSD head Richelle Verdeprado-Mangga, as of November 10, the city recorded 1,024 totally damaged houses and 7,685 partially damaged houses across 31 of the city’s 61 barangays.
The validation was initially scheduled to conclude on November 11, following the devastation brought by Typhoon “Tino” on November 4, when Bacolod was placed under Signal No. 4.
However, Verdeprado-Mangga said the process has been extended due to inclement weather brought by Typhoon “Uwan.” The validation may continue until the end of the week.
Mayor Greg Gasataya said the DSSD is carrying out the assessment in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and barangay representatives.
“Gina-isa-isa guid ang mga balay, and we will submit the list to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian for further action,” the mayor said.
Gasataya added that the city government will provide assistance to affected households, although the exact amount has yet to be determined.
During Typhoon “Tino,” about 8,812 families or 30,018 individuals took shelter in 99 evacuation centers across the city.
As of November 10, amid Typhoon “Uwan,” another 806 families or 3,226 individuals from 23 barangays have also sought temporary shelter, based on the latest DSSD report./PN
