BACOLOD City — Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) in Bacolod City are set to receive higher monthly allowances following the approval on final reading of City Ordinance No. 1148 by the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
The measure, aimed at strengthening frontline health services in communities, was authored by Councilor Em Ang and approved unanimously on April 15, 2026.
Ang said the ordinance increases the current P7,000 monthly allowance by P2,000, bringing it to P8,000 starting January 2027 and P9,000 by January 2028, subject to budget availability.
The measure amends provisions of City Ordinance No. 1056, which previously adjusted BHW compensation in 2023.
According to Ang, the increase responds to the rising cost of living and recognizes the expanding workload of BHWs, many of whom serve more households than the standard ratio.
The ordinance underscores the city government’s commitment to supporting grassroots health workers, widely regarded as the backbone of public health services at the barangay level.
