BACOLOD City – The public plaza is undergoing rehabilitation in preparation for the MassKara Festival next month.

Workers are ensuring the rehabilitation of one of the festival sites gets completed before MassKara starts, according to Rep. Greg Gasataya.

Gasataya and District Engineer Abraham Villareal of the Department of Public Works and Highways – City District Engineering Office inspected the ongoing work at the plaza yesterday.

MassKara Festival starts Oct. 1 but the highlights shall be on the 22nd, as per a city ordinance.

The Public Works department is working on the plaza rehabilitation, which has a funding of P10 million, said Gasayata. The project includes, among others:

  • installation of four fountains

  • repair/repainting/new stone-coated roofing for stage with new lighting fixtures

  • rewiring and installation of new lighting fixtures

  • restoration of all benches with pebble finish

  • fabrication and installation of garden grills

  • installation of a new sound system

  • de-clogging and repair of drainage

Nothing at the plaza will be replaced. Everything there makes for the place’s identity, said Gasataya. Even the tress will not be touched, he added.

The city government shall be in charge of maintaining the rehabilitated plaza, he said./PN
