BACOLOD City – How are the barangays doing with the “no segregation, no collection” solid waste management policy of the city government?
Compliance with the rule is “less than 10 percent,” Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran lamented.
Familiaran, head of the Solid Waste Action Team, which was tasked to enforce the policy, hopes more barangays follow the rule “in the next two months.”
The Solid Waste Action Team continues with its information-education campaign with regard to the policy, said Familiaran.
IPM Construction and Development Corp., the city government’s garbage collection contractor, helps distribute flyers among households.
By middle of October, those who do not follow the policy will be penalized, Familiaran said.
The policy is in line with Republic Act 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, said the vice mayor.
The IPM already distributed their collection schedule to the barangays. Under the policy, it must not collect unsegregated waste.
Meanwhile, Familiaran said shredder machines will be distributed this week to the host barangays 1, 2, 3, 17, 18, 27, 28, 38, 39, Singcang-Airport, Tangub, and Pahanocoy.
Two more shredder machines will be stationed at the City Agriculture Office farm in Barangay Alijis, and at one of the three major public markets Burgos, Central or Libertad./PN
