DUMARAO, Capiz – Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts swept their opponents to rule the 2023 Rebisco 18-and-under Volleyball League Western Visayas Qualifiers on Sunday night at the Dumarao Municipal Gymnasium here.
Led by Most Valuable Player and 1st Best Middle Blocker awardee Jihan Isabelle Chuatico, the Thunderbolts reclaimed the championship with a 25-12, 25-15, 25-16 victory over Central Philippine University Golden Lions in the finals
Chuatico’s teammates Dona Mae De Leon (2nd Best Middle Blocker), Jothea Ramos (Best Opposite Attacker), Alexia Montoro (1st Best Outside Hitter), Patricia Hiponia (Best Setter) and Alijah Ysulan (Best Libero) were also cited.
Also part of the Bacolod Tay Tung roster are Camila Amor Bartolome, Joenil Ramos, Rhose Almendralejo, Ana Francessca Hermosura, Ana Ysabelle Hermosura, Briana Ang, Jan Rose Bulak, Czarina Dosayla, Mary Antonette Bontia, and Rhea Tomas.
For ruling the regional qualifiers, the Thunderbolts once again earned the right to represent Western Visayas in the Rebisco Volleyball League National Finals slated from January 8 to 13 at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
“We are happy to be back as champions here in the Rebisco Regional Qualifiers,” said Thunderbolts team manager Jose Montalbo. “The players showed their heart and displayed their determination to win.”
“It is also nice to earn the right to represent our province Western Visayas once again in the National. The players will surely give their best to represent Region 6 well,” he added.
During the group stage, the Ian Macariola-mentored Thunderbolts defeated Pototan National Comprehensive High School, Trinity Christian School and Murcia Open Bible Christian Academy.
In the crossover semifinals round, the Thunderbolts prevailed over St. John’s Institute-Bacolod Falcons, 25-11, 25-16, while the Golden Lions took down Trinity Christian School.
Meanwhile, St. John’s Institute salvaged a bronze medal finish after prevailing over Trinity Christian School in a battle-for-third place game among the two Bacolod City-based squads./PN
