Bacolodnon MMA’er upsets Brazilian enemy

MIGUEL Mosquera pulled off a huge upset after defeating Brazilian Afonso Celso Jr. in the main event of the Tiger Black BRAWL 2019 at the SMX Convention Center of SM City Bacolod.

The 36-year-old Mosquera pulled off the improbable as he manhandled the heavily-favored Celso before referee Joey Lepiten stop the match with 2:17 minutes left in the opening round.

Mosquera, who fights out of 6100 Martial Arts and Fitness, started the bout quick offensive attack against Celso before grappling and launching massive strikes on the Brazillian’s face.

“As I’ve said during the pre-match press conference, I will do my best to win this fight and sweep them all. And we did it tonight,” Mosquera said. “I would like to thank the organizers of this fight for bringing a spectacular event here in Bacolod.”

With the victory, the Bacolodnon improved his mixed martial arts records to seven wins and three defeats, while Celso of the Catalan Fighting System of Manila dropped his record to 4-7.

Rex de Lara (9-6), fighting for MUMMA, won over 30-year-old Rufino Mante (14-4) from Legacy Gym Boracay via disqualification after the latter hardly hit the former below the belt.

Bacolodnon Victor Torre (10-3) cruised to an easy submission win over Bingbong Mayormito (5-1), while Intoy Paltingca defeated Marco Birch via split decision and Joemar Bayang edged Pablo Menosa via second round submission.

“We expressed gratitude to everyone who made the event successful. We assure you that we will bring more exciting cards in the next fights,” said Dr. Lean Torre, one of the organizers./PN
