ILOILO – A suspect in the fatal ambush of two men in Balasan town on the eve of the 2016 elections was arrested in the island barangay of Asluman, municipality of Carles.
Operatives of Carles police station and the Police Regional Office 6’s Regional Intelligence Division caught 31-year-old Cris Perlas of Barangay Gogo, Estancia town around 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 11.
Perlas was a member of the Balume gun-for-hire group, said Superintendent Gilbert Gorero, PRO-6 spokesperson.
The arrest warrant was issued by Judge Rogelio Amador of the Regional Trial Court Branch 66. No bail was recommended for Perlas’ temporary liberty.
Perlas and four other men were charged with double murder for the deaths of Ronaldo Estandarte, 56, and Roberto Magarso, 48, in Barangay Pani-an, Balasan town on May 8, 2016.
Estandarte and Magarso were supporters of Estancia mayoralty candidate Melinda Requinto. They died of multiple gunshot wounds.
The four other suspects were Ramy Balume, Arturo “Master Pedic” Balume, Arturo Balume II, and Francis Valdez.
Ramy was arrested on May 30, 2017 in Sitio Santol, Barangay San Andres, San Rafael town. The rest remain at large as of this writing./PN
