ILOILO City – An argument over pigeons led to the stabbing of a village watchman in Barangay Rizal Palapala 1, City Proper.
Tanod Rodney Escultero, 46, sustained three stab wounds. He was confined at the Iloilo Doctors’ Hospital in Molo district.
Police identified a suspect: village councilman (kagawad) Junny Degabi, 54.
Police Station 1 learned about the incident from Iloilo Doctors’ Hospital personnel at around 9:40 p.m. on Dec. 13.
Both victim and suspect were intoxicated at the time, said the station chief Senior Inspector Jose Val Ladublan.
They accompanied Barangay Captain Alrey Depatillo on his way home after binge drinking with several unidentified companions at around 9:15 p.m.
Along the way, the two argued about pigeons owned by a local association, initial police investigation showed.
Degabi punched Escultero on the shoulder, then the latter punched former on the face, officers said, citing witnesses.
“They had a previous argument about the pigeons,” Ladublan said.
Degabi then pulled out an unidentified sharp object and stabbed Escultero on the left shoulder, left forearm and left side of his back, a police report showed.
The suspect fled after the incident. Officers launched a hot pursuit against him and encouraged his family to facilitate his surrender./PN
