ILOILO City – A 43-year-old man from Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo – classified as the top regional priority target in the campaign against illegal drugs – was arrested in Barangay San Nicolas, Oton town on Friday, November 21.
Police said alias “Edward”, a resident of Barangay Ilaud Poblacion, Barotac Nuevo, was caught after he handed over suspected shabu to a poseur buyer in exchange for P14,000, at around 1:25 a.m.
According to Police Major Marvin Villanueva of the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit 6 (RPDEU-6), they recovered a total of 350 grams of suspected shabu approximately valued at P2.4 million.
“Our suspect is operating province-wide and his source is in Iloilo. Kapag nakuha na nya ang items, dispose nya agad kasi may buyers na sya,” said Villanueva.
The suspect is now in police custody and will face charges for violations of Sections 5 and 11 of Republic Act No. 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. These violations carry severe penalties, including life imprisonment to death and fines ranging from P500,000 to P10 million if proven guilty./PN
