BACOLOD City – Bayan-Negros secretary-general Christian Tuayon lambasted President Rodrigo Duterte after the latter declared Sept. 21 as a “national day of protest.”
Tuayon said such declaration was “divisive” and designed to antagonize the masses using its rage against then president Ferdinand Marcos’ declaration of martial law.
Tuayon called Duterte a “hypocrite” doing such even after he recognized Marcos as a hero and allowed the latter’s body to be buried in the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
According to Tuayon, the present administration is trying to “condition the minds” of Filipinos to expect the possibility of the entire country being under martial law.
This was due to the growing criticisms over extrajudicial killings, pointed out Tuayon.
Bayan-Negros and other organized militants will conduct a two-day protest today and tomorrow in commemoration of the martial law era.
Demonstrations will be held on the streets of Kabankalan and Escalante cities, Tuayon said./PN
