BAYAN-Panay condemns US attacks and imperialist aggression vs Venezuela

BAGONG Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN) Panay strongly condemns the bombardment and attacks carried out by the United States against Venezuela, and the abduction of its president, Nicolas Maduro, and his wife, Cilia Flores. These acts of war, combined with years of crippling economic sanctions and political interference, amount to a grave violation of Venezuela’s sovereignty and a direct assault on the Venezuelan people’s right to self-determination.

BAYAN Panay also condemns the hypocrisy displayed by Western governments and other US allies in condoning US aggression. Leaders from the Global North were quick to condemn and demand punishment when Russia took military action against Ukraine. When the United States does it, these same leaders become timid, claim they need to investigate further, or at most express “concern” over the situation. The double standards are mind-boggling. Whether it’s support for the US-backed Israeli genocide against the Palestinians or support for US aggression against Venezuela, Western governments will cite international law only when it’s convenient, and ignore it altogether when it contradicts the wishes of their overlord in Washington.

These attacks by the United States against Venezuela are not isolated incidents. They are part of a long-standing US campaign for regime-change through economic strangulation, covert operations and military attacks against Venezuela — aimed squarely at seizing control of its vast oil resources. This has been brazenly admitted by US officials themselves, including President Donald Trump, who openly framed US hostility toward Venezuela around oil interests.

Through unilateral sanctions, the US deliberately plunged Venezuela into an economic and humanitarian crisis — blocking access to financial systems, fuel, food, and medicines. These sanctions function as weapons of collective punishment against an entire people and violate international law, including the UN Charter and fundamental principles of state sovereignty and self-determination.

The United States has no right to bomb, threaten, sanction, or coerce Venezuela. Its actions expose the true character of US imperialism: a global system of plunder that tramples on the rights of nations in pursuit of profit, strategic dominance, and control of natural resources.

What is unfolding in Venezuela mirrors the broader reality of US imperialist violence worldwide. From the US-backed genocide of the Palestinian people to endless wars and bombardments across the Middle East, to US military intervention, counterinsurgency support, and repression in the Philippines, the pattern is unmistakable. The US has turned the world into its battlefield, with the peoples of the Global South paying the highest price.

In the Philippines, US intervention has long meant heightened militarization, attacks against activists and environmental defenders, and intensified repression of indigenous peoples and communities resisting land-grabbing and foreign-driven “development” projects. The same imperialist forces sanctioning and attacking Venezuela enable and sustain repression in our own country.

BAYAN Panay stands in full solidarity with the Venezuelan people in their struggle against imperialism, militarism, and foreign domination. We affirm their sovereign right to chart their own political, economic, and social path — free from bombs, sanctions, and external coercion.

We demand an immediate stop to US military aggression against Venezuela, the lifting of all US sanctions, and an end to US intervention and regime-change operations in Latin America and other parts of the world. Venezuela’s sovereignty is non-negotiable, and its people alone have the right to decide their future.

From Palestine to Venezuela, from the Middle East to the Philippines, the peoples of the world are united in resisting imperialism.

Hands off Venezuela! Stop US imperialist aggression! Down with imperialism! Long live international solidarity! – BAGONG ALYANSANG MAKABAYAN – PANAY <bayanpanay2014@gmail.com>
