BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) passed a resolution urging Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) director Colonel Thomas Joseph Martir to intensify police visibility by deploying police personnel in all private and public schools in the city.
Councilor Jesus Claudio Puentevella, author of the resolution, said police visibility is for the safety of the students as the opening of limited face-to-face (F2F) classes commenced on Aug. 22.
He said there is a need for BCPO to institute appropriate measures to ensure the safety and security of the children and to help bring back people’s confidence in the law enforcement agencies.
“The increase of police visibility around private and public schools will protect students and suppress crimes within its vicinity,” the city councilor stressed.
He also cited Section 5 of Article II of the 1987 Constitution which states that the maintenance of peace and order, the protection of life, liberty, and property, and promotion of the general welfare are essential for the enjoyment by all the people of the blessings of democracy.
Puentevella added that Section 24(A) of Republic Act 6975, or the Department of the Interior and Local Government Act of 1990, provides that the Philippine National Police shall enforce all laws and ordinances relative to the protection of lives and properties./PN
