MANILA – Negrense Bea Tan and Dji Rodriguez and Ilongga pair Roma Joy and Roma Mae Doromal stayed undefeated in the 2019 Beach Volleyball Republic on Tour at the Dreamwave White Beach in Puerto Galera.
Tan and Rodriguez first defeated University of Santo Tomas’ Mer Jauculan and Derie Virtusio, 21-11, 21-7, before beating the other UST squad composed of Negrense MJ Ebro and Cara Rosales, 21-13, 21-9 on Saturday.
The Negros Occidental native Tan is the defending champion in the Puerto Galera leg of the BVR on Tour after winning last year’s edition with Angelique Gervacio as her partner.
The Doromal sisters, on the other hand, swept the Philippine Air Force tandems of Angel Antipuesto and Mikaela Andres, 21-10, 21-11, and May Ann Pantino and Jossa Cabalsa, 22-20, 21-17.
Before losing to Tan and Rodriguez, Silay City native Ebro and Rosales emerged victorious over Talisay City’s Rizalie Amaro and Shiela Mae Kiseo of FEU-Diliman, 21-13, 21-10.
Amado and Kiseo have earlier scored a 21-10, 21-15 victory over Rizal Technological University’s Mary Jean Ruiz and Jonna Mae de Lima, but their loss to Ebro and Rosales dropped them to the loser’s bracket.
Talisay City’s Nikka Ann Medina and Lyann Louise de Guzman of FEU-Diliman also did not have a winning start after bowing to Antipuesto and Andres, 21-9, 21-17./PN
