BENJAMIN Alves is gearing up for his role as former Philippine president Manuel Quezon in Jerrold Tarog’s upcoming biopic, “Quezon.”
On Instagram on Tuesday, Feb. 4, the Sparkle actor shared a photo from what seems to be a script-reading session for the film, the third installment of Tarog’s Bayaniverse trilogy after “Heneral Luna” and “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral.”
One of the photos showed his name along with “Quezon 1.” In the previous films, Benjamin played the younger version of Quezon.
“Q,” he wrote in the caption.
“Quezon” will follow the life of Quezon, a lawyer and a soldier who became the President of the Commonwealth of the Philippines from 1935 to 1944, highlighting his tumultuous presidential campaign against Emilio Aguinaldo.
Mon Confiado will reprise his role as Aguinaldo from the first two films.
TBA Studios recently announced that production for “Quezon” will begin in March and the film targets a theatrical release this year.
According to the president and COO of TBA Studios, Daphne Chiu, the film will be released both locally and internationally. She also emphasized that Quezon will be a stand-alone film, allowing new audiences to enjoy it, while still being part of the larger cinematic continuity that includes “Heneral Luna” and “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral.”
The upcoming biographical film is supported by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), with the latter announcing its funding support for the project. This collaboration signals a shared commitment between TBA Studios, NCCA, and FDCP to strengthen the local film industry by creating and promoting world-class Filipino films. (GMA Integrated News)
