BIANCA Gonzalez called out the children of government officials who flaunt their lavish lifestyles on social media without a care for Filipinos who may be having a hard time making ends meet.
On X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, August 28, Gonzalez spoke out amid the lifestyle check on some government officials and government contractors in the wake of public scrutiny over alleged anomalous multimillion-peso flood control projects.
“My feed is filled with posts on the lavish lifestyles of kids of corrupt officials…. and here we are, mga walang generational wealth o nakaw na yaman, na kumakayod araw-araw, na minsan’y nahihiya pa mag-post ng travel o ng nabili kasi baka ‘mayabang’ ang dating [shy emoji] paano ba to,” she wrote.
While her post did not directly name specific individuals, Gonzalez’s statement came after netizens called out the children of some politicians who were allegedly involved in the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) flood control projects, and which are now subject of a government lifestyle check.
One of the names that came up on social media was Claudine Co, daughter of former Ako Bicol Party-list’s Rep. Christopher Co, whose company Hi-Tone Construction and Development Corporation was among the 15 construction firms flagged by the government as among those that won alleged anomalous multimillion contracts with the DPWH.
A travel and fashion influencer, Co has just recently been venturing into music, having released several covers.
Following the backlash, Claudine has deactivated all her social media accounts, and could not be reached for comment. (Jessica Ann Evangelista © Philippine Daily Inquirer
