BORACAY – This world-famous island continues to draw more visitors, shown in the 14-percent increase in its tourist arrivals from January to October this year.

Data from the Aklan Provincial Tourism Office (APTO) showed that for the first ten months of 2017, the island resort hosted 1,669,751 tourists, 203,005 higher than last year’s 1,466,796 in the same period.

Foreign visitors recorded a total of 806,296 arrivals while their domestic counterparts, 826,828, APTO said.

The remaining 36,627 were overseas Filipinos.

APTO’s Comparative Boracay Statistics 2016-2017 also revealed the positive growth rate of tourist arrivals in each month this year, citing that April has the highest growth rate of 27 percent.

August followed with a growth rate of 23 percent, September with 20 percent, May with 19 percent, October with 18 percent, and June with 14 percent.

The months of January, March and July, meanwhile, tied at seven percent. February was the lowest at one percent.

From January to October, tourist arrivals in Boracay generated P46,526,574,162 tourism receipts, with the P31,769,430,700.80 from overseas Filipinos and foreign visitors and P14,757,143,461.20 from domestic tourists.

Meanwhile, seven cruises will visit the island from Nov. 21 to Dec. 25, according to the Department of Tourism.

The luxury trips are expected to bring in Boracay a total of 32,800 passengers and crew members. (PIA/PN)
