Brgy ‘kagawad’ faces frustrated murder rap

ROXAS City – A village official in Maayon, Capiz has been charged with frustrated murder for allegedly shooting an employee of the Capiz Electric Cooperative (Capelco).

Barangay Quinat-uyan kagawad Ronito Degala was arrested and detained on Tuesday.

He was accused of shooting the 47-year-old Adonis Brillantes of Barangay Baybay, Roxas City that day.

Brillantes, the team leader of Capelco’s Investigation and Apprehension Section, was out to check an illegal electric connection in Barangay Quinat-uyan and found one was connected to Degala’s house, according to Capelco general manager Edgar Diaz.

Brillantes then confronted Degala, telling the latter to go with him to Capelco’s office in Barangay Timpas, Panitan, Capiz.

But the 52-year-old Degala did not heed Brillantes. Instead, he went inside his house and allegedly took a shot gun and fired at Brillantes.

Brillantes sustained a gunshot wound on the right leg and was rushed to a hospital for treatment, Diaz said.

Officers from the Maayon municipal police station responded to the village and caught Degala.

Ginhingagaw gid namon nga ma-inquest ang suspect kag ma-file ang kaso para indi na sia ka gwa sa presohan,” Diaz told Panay News.

“Aside from the [frustrated] murder case, we will also impose sa suspect ang policy nga iya ginlapas sa CAPELCO, kon sa diin may mga multa sia nga pagabayaran bangud sa paggamit sang jumper,” he added.

A hearing for Degala’s charge is scheduled on Sept. 18 at the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office
