BACOLOD City – The Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) has apprehended about 100 overloaded trucks in the city.
BTAO head Superintendent Luisito Acebuche said they have been apprehending overloaded trucks after the Nov. 30 crash in Barangay Atipuluan, Bago City, Negros Occidental, which claimed four lives.
The casualties were Romulo Espinosa and wife Josephine, their daughter Christine Sarsia and their 3-year-old grandson John Vincent.
They were on board a Hyundai Eon urban car when a sugarcane-loaded 10-wheeler truck crashed into them, a police report showed.
Because the city has no weighbridge, BTAO personnel are only measuring the length and width of the trucks.
Acebuche said their standard measurements are according to Republic Act 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.
Acebuche said trucks loaded with sugarcanes without cover are also apprehended.
Apprehended trucks are meted with a P5,000 fine, he added.
The BTAO head also reminded truck drivers and operators that there is a truck ban from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the city./PN
