BACOLOD City – Starting today, the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) will “strictly” implement City Ordinance (CO) No. 641 in line with the nationwide observance of the smoking ban.
City Ordinance No. 641 regulates smoking in public places and conveyances, and the advertisement, promotion and sponsorship of tobacco products.
The ordinance was approved on April 2013 yet it was not strictly implemented, Councilor Caesar Distrito said.
Superintendent Luisito Acebuche, head of BTAO, said they will penalize violators under the CO No. 641 and the Executive Order (EO) No. 26 signed by President Rodrigo Duterte on May 16.
Under the ordinance, violators will be fined P500 on the first offense, P1000 on the second offense, and P2500 on the third offense or a 30-day imprisonment.
Meanwhile, EO No. 26 will have a penalty ranging from P500 to P10,000 depending on the number of offenses.
Moreover, the executive order prohibits minors from buying, selling, delivering, and lighting up tobacco products.
“Persons-in-charge” who allow, abet or tolerate these offenses will also face penalties under the executive order.
“Persons-in-charge” refers to a president or manager of a company, corporation, partnership or association, or the administrator of a government or private property, facility, office or building, and the city/municipal schools superintendent, school president, dean or principal of schools./PN
