ILOILO City – The city government has released its P500,000 reward money to two informants whose tips to the police led to the neutralization of drug lord Richard “Buang” Prevendido of Barangay Bakhaw, Mandurriao district.
Also yesterday, it released P300,000 to the Police Regional Office 6’s Regional Intelligence Division as incentive for taking down Prevendido on Sept. 1 in Barangay Balabago, Jaro district.
Acting Mayor Jose Espinosa III personally turned over the half a million pesos bounty to the two informants at city hall.
Prevendido was the most wanted drug fugitive in Western Visayas at the time of his death.
One of the informants was a police “asset” while the other was a Prevendido ally who decided to cooperate with the police.
Senior Superintendent Carlito Feliciano, deputy director for administration of the regional police office, thanked the city government for supporting the campaign against illegal drugs.
The incentive would boost the morale of policemen, he stressed.
Late last month, the provincial government of Iloilo released P500,000 to the two informants and another half a million pesos to the Iloilo Police Provincial Office.
“We truly appreciate the provincial government’s cash reward. Sana nga lahat ng ating local government units will have a similar incentive scheme para magpursige pa ang ating kapulisan, kasi bawat probinsya may mga wanted persons,” said Chief Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne Binag, regional police director./PN
