ILOILO City ā€“ A wall of an abandoned building at a transport terminal across Christ the King cemetery in Barangay Ungka, Jaro district collapsed at around 12:30 p.m. yesterday.

No one was hurt but four public utility jeepneys (PUJ) were damaged.

Two of them were wrecked. Bearing the registration plate numbers FVV-676 and FVM-411, both were plying the Santa Barbara ā€“ Iloilo City route.

They were driven by the 41-year-old Wisman Macasandag of Barangay Purok II, Pavia town and Christopher Anacleto, 60, of Zone I, Arroyo Street, Santa Barbara, respectively.

The other two suffered partial damage. For the Santa Barbara PUJ (plate number FWF-684) of driver Barnard Efondo, the damage was on the left rear, while for the CPU Ungka PUJ of driver Roel Balez, it was on the left side.

Efondo, 47, is a resident of Barangay Talanghauan, Cabatuan while Balez, 20, is from San Lorenzo, Guimaras.

PUJ drivers at the terminal claimed the building is owned by the Pueblo family. Panay News was unable to independently verify this as of press time. The reason for the collapse remained unclear, too.

For Macasandag, it was the shock of his life. He was chatting with fellow drivers under a nearby acacia tree when the wall fell.

ā€œI arrived here and parked my PUJ around 25 to 30 minutes before the wall collapsed. I was shocked,ā€ he told this paper in Hiligaynon.

The incident dispirited him, Macasandag said. ā€œThe owner of the building could shoulder the cost of my PUJā€™s repair if they have a budget, but what if they donā€™t? I might end up being a bum for a while.ā€

Anacleto felt disheartened that he could lose his livelihood. ā€œIf only I could do something about it. I have no other source of income right now,ā€ he told Panay News./PN
