ROEL Quitoy of Team Mindanao may not have won the P1-million top prize in the LBC Ronda Pilipinas 2017, which formally closed on Sunday in Iloilo City, he still ended the 14-stage race like a champion.

The Zamboanga City-native Quitoy recently received a brand new carbon road bike from good samaritans replacing his cheap aluminum bike, which broke down during the race.

The bike Quitoy received is worth around P100,000, which is a far cry from his aluminum bike, which was bought at P12,000, and was not only old but also used mountain bike gear.

The 25-year-old Quitoy admitted that he nearly quit the race after his mountain bike broke down but good thing a generous person in Paul Tan loaned his bike to the Zamboangueno.

Quitoy emerged on top in Stage 10 of the LBC Ronda Pilipinas 2017 in Tagaytay City over a field that included back-to-back champion Jan Paul Morales of Navy-Standard Insurance. He also received P20,000 for winning the stage.

“I thank the people who are helping me and I hope I can return the favor by working harder,” said Quitoy, who left mountain biking and shifted to road racing after figuring in a major accident a few years back.

For now, Quitoy, who is on his second year of joining the cycling event, may not be figuring in the Top 10. But after showing what he could do, he could be a force to be reckoned with in the near future of LBC Ronda Pilipinas.

Following its successful “Laban Pinoy 3: Rise of the Champions” card recently at the Lagao Gym in General Santos City, the Sanman Promotions has another exciting card in store for boxing fans.

The “T’boli Thunder 2” boxing show is slated for March 12 at the T’boli Covered Court in South Cotabato featuring the clash for the vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) Asia Pacific light flyweight title in the main event.

Sanman Promotions’ Jim Claude Manangquil told the Buzzer Beater that his prized fighter Ronie Tanallon (10-3-1, 2 KOs) will be fighting Arnold Garde (7-4-2, 3 KOs) of Davao City for the said crown.

The 23-year old Tanallon, a former Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) minimumweight champion, comes from a unanimous decision victory in his previous outing against Rez Padrogane in Dec.17 last year at Robinson’s Place Gensan.

Last year, the General Santos-native Tanallon also fought but lost by a UD to Robert Paradero in their battle for the vacant WBO Asia Pacific Youth minimumweight title at Cagayan de Oro City.

Garde, on the other hand, won the Minproba light flyweight title via unanimous decision over Ian Ligutan on Sept. 17 at the President Roxas Gym in President Roxas, North Cotabato.

The 26-year old Garde, however, lost via unanimous decision to former world champion Randy “Razor” Petalcorin in their IBF Pan Pacific light flyweight title fight in his last fight at Robinson’s Mall Atrium in Gensan.

Markquil Salvaña will also be in action when he faces JP Macadumpis for the vacant PBF featherweight title. This annual boxing event is presented by Sanman promotions and supported by the T’boli municipal government./PN
