‘Wasted talent’
A HEAD coach of a Manila-based collegiate basketball team badly wants to recruit a Visayas-based big man but the latter seems to just want a big opportunity slip away from his hands.
A source told Buzzer Beater that one of head coach’s assistant coaches has been contacting the big man via Facebook and his mobile phone but the latter refuses to answer.
“Interesado talaga si coach kay player. Actually dalawang tao na ang nilapitan nila para ma-reach out si player. Iyong una ayaw silang tulungan dahil ayaw niya mapahiya kay coach lalo pa at pasaway iyong gusto nilang makuha,” said the source.
“Iyong ikalawa namang nilapitan ng assistant ni head coach, binigyan sila ng cell number at binigay rin iyong Facebook account. Ilang araw na nilang kinokontak pero si player hindi raw nasagot.”
The source said the head coach is still hoping for a chance to get the Visayan big man. In fact, they are scheduled to go to the latter’s province to recruit players and possibly try to lure him.
“Last straw na siguro ni head coach iyon. Kung ayaw pa talaga ni player, bahala na siya,” said the source. “Sayang talaga ang talent ni player kasi matangkad siya at may laro rin sa loob at labas.”
“Nakakapanghinayang lang si player kasi ang sumisira sa kanya iyong pagiging pasaway niya. Iyong high school coach niya sa probinsya suko na sa kanya dahil ang hirap niyang ituwid. Sayang talaga,” said the source.

Michael Dasmariñas is gearing up for the biggest fight of his career when he vies for the IBO world bantamweight title on April 20 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
The Camarines Sur native will face French Karim Guerfi in the main event of the “Roar of Singapore IV: The Night of Champions” promoted by Ringstar Boxing.
Dasmariñas earned the shot at world championship after an impressive win against Thai opponent Phupha Por Nobnom on Oct. 20, 2017 at the Suntec Convention Center.
“Nakakagalak po at nabigyan tayo ng Ringstar ng ganitong pagkakataong mapakita ang ating galing bilang Pilipino at makalaban sa world championship,” Dasmariñas told Buzzer Beater.
“Puspusan ang aking paghahanda. Tuloy-tuloy po ang ating ensayo dahil nais ko po makamit ang IBO world title na ito. Samahan niyo po ako magdasal na makuha natin ang panalong ito. Ang panalo ko po ay pagkapanalo rin ng Pilipinas,” he added.
Dasmariñas will parade an impressive 27-2-0 win-loss-draw record, including 18 stoppage wins, while the 30-year-old Guerfi has a 26-3-0 slate with eight knockout victories./PN
