THE Adamson University Lady Falcons volleyball team has recently been put on the spotlight – and it’s not because of how they play in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball.

Lady Falcons head coach Airess Padda received mixed comments from netizens when she dropped cuss word against her player Joy Dacoron during their straight set defeat to the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws.

During one of the technical timeouts, the American mentor was heard on national television shouting at Dacoron: “Am I expecting too much from you? Do your fucking job.”

When interviewed by the media after the match, Padda admitted that the “F word” was due to her frustration toward her team’s performance as victory remains elusive to them after nine games.

“I actually apologized to Joy for cussing at her, I didn’t mean to. But I am very frustrated, disappointed,” Padda said. “We had a great week of practices I thought we were kind of building momentum, but we showed up today and it’s like we took 10 steps back.”

“I just felt like we worked too hard for them to show up in the game and not give 110 percent. They’re not treating the match as if it’s a match. They’re treating it like a tune-up game,” the American mentor added.

“I think that’s how our season has been going and I was very frustrated and it came out at a wrong time,” Padda said. “I believe that every day they are getting better with building their mind, but its inconsistent.”

For us, Padda does not even need to say an apology since what she did was just calling the attention of a player who is not delivering the goods – and that’s normal behavior for head coaches.

Padda’s actions actually seem more sober when compared to the actions of other coaches like Yeng Guiao of NLEX Road Warriors or say Hans Michael Smit of the De La Salle Football team.

Guiao has been seen several times on national TV cussing his players. At one instance, he even pulled a player by the jersey and shouted at him. But instead of taking it against him, his players use it as motivation to improve.

Athletes committing mistakes is unavoidable and therefore you should be ready to hear it from your head coach. If you do not know how to receive comments or even cuss words, better quit.

La Carlota, Negros Occidental netter Alexa Milliam logged another multiple title romp during the Palawan Pawnshop-Palawan Express Pera Padala La Carlota leg regional tennis tournament last Monday at the Lacta Tennis courts in Negros Occidental.

Milliam sustained her dominance from the Roxas City leg last week as she ruled the girls’ 12- and 14-U classes of the event, which served as the eighth leg of the 54-stage circuit hosted by Mayor Jacky Jalandoni and Vice Mayor Rex Jalando-on.

Milliam shut out Willyn Segura, 6-0, 6-0, for the 12-U plum then the local ace held off Wendy Galanza, 6-1, 6-4, for the 14-U title in the tournament sanctioned by Philta and backed by Asiatraders Corp.

“Milliam’ feats should serve as inspiration to the other young players and the Palawan Pawnshop circuit will continue to provide them the country-wide, year-round tournaments,” said Palawan Pawnship president-CEO Bobby Castro.

Milliam also partnered with Mika Medina to crush Segura and Psalm Pielago, 8-2, for the 14-U doubles plum and later shared the MVP honors with Cebuano netter Chad Cuizon, who went home with a pair of titles./PN
